After undergoing gastric sleeve surgery, patients are asked to do a good amount of walking to promote the recovery process. Activities such as moving around and walking increase blood flow. Good circulation helps to minimize the formation of blood clots and to enhance healing to speed up recovery and reduce complications. Patients can begin walking for approximately half an hour per day as soon as they get home.
Generally patients can start exercising within three to six weeks after surgery (be sure to consult with your doctor).
It is also recommended that former patients continue to exercise regularly to promote good health. Exercises such as walking, jogging, bike riding, swimming, and hiking are a great way to enjoy the outdoors, burn off some calories, and promote heart health.
