The daughter of famous Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Kelly Osbourne, recently entered the spotlight after a serious weight loss transformation.  At 34 years old, she decided to undergo laparoscopic gastric sleeve surgery after years of public harassment, alcohol and drug addictions, depression, anxiety, and unhealthy eating habits.

“I will never, ever lie about it [gastric sleeve surgery] ever. It is the best thing I have ever done.” – Kelly Osbourne, 2021

Unlike other celebrities, kelly Osbourne was transparent about her 85 lbs weight loss via surgery. She said she didn’t care what anyone had to say…

How did Kelly lose so much weight?

Kelly chose to receive a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) to lose her extra body fat. The gastric sleeve procedure is a safe operation and is popular for its fast and powerful results.

VSG bariatric surgery uses minimally invasive techniques to cut off 80-85% of the stomach. It limits how much you can eat and lowers your hunger hormones to reduce your appetite.

While the sleeve helps make it easier to lose weight, you will still have to commit to exercising and dieting to get long-term success.

How much weight did Kelly Osbourne lose?

Since her gastric sleeve surgery in 2018, Kelly Osbourne has shed 90lbs from her total body mass! While her weight loss has been a success. It wasn’t an easy road for Kelly. She has been working with a trainer, Lacy Stone, and committing to a healthy lifestyle of intense workouts and nutritious, vegan foods. The sleeve is not a quick fix, but as the celebrity stated in an interview with Hollywood Raw with Dax Holt and Adam Glyn:

“If you don’t work out and you don’t eat right, you gain weight. All [the gastric sleeve] does is move you in the right direction” – Kelly Osbourne, 2021

Before having the sleeve in 2018, Osbourne tried several diet and workout routines. During her time on Dancing with the Stars in 2009, she learned several tips from her dance partner, Louis van Amstel, but once the show was over, she relapsed and went back to unhealthy habits. Since 2012, Osbourne has been following a vegan diet which has helped keep her meals healthy and nutritious, but she could never keep a consistent weight loss regimen.

As the celebrity has mentioned in several interviews, she had the sleeve because of her health, not her looks. “I did it for me” (Kelly Osbourne, 2021). For years, she grappled with public harassment as well as alcohol and drug addictions which required years of therapy to recover from. After a full year of therapy, Kelly felt mentally and physically ready to get the sleeve.

How she maintained her weight loss

As a vegan, Kelly has had a special, gastric sleeve-friendly meal plan based solely on nutritious fruits and veggies. This has included juicing (drinks full of vitamins, fruits, and vegetables instead of solid ingredients) and fasting for 14-16 hours a day. Her daily exercises include;

  • High-intensity exercises: For 2-3 times a week, do three sets of intense workouts such as push-ups, squats, and lunges. To reduce back pain and tighten your core, try three sets of “planking” (lay still on a matt, face down with your elbows bent) for 45-60 seconds
  • Cardio: 3 times a week, try to do a cardio exercise like jogging, swimming, or biking for 20-45 minutes
  • Hoopnotica: Using a regular hula hoop, you can perform certain movements and dances that can help you trim down! For Osbourne, it has been a fun and relaxing workout that has helped her lose 70lbs since 2013!
  • Spin: If you want to save your curves, try out a spin class where you use a bike machine with a trained professional

What Kelly learned from her Trainer, Lacy Stone

After losing so much weight, Osbourne uncovered what inspired her to keep going and fight against her old habits. First, cheating on your diet is okay, but balancing it with proper exercise is important. Second, mix up your workouts! Don’t stick to one routine, and focus on different muscle groups. If you don’t, you might overwork and even damage your muscle. Last but most importantly, don’t give up! It can be hard to see your progress for the first few weeks of any diet, but this is mainly because your body holds onto temporary water weight.  You are losing weight! If you’re too discouraged:

“Toss the scale for the first week or two.” – Kelly Osbourne, 2021
