Hi! My name is Patty. I am married and have five kids. I work as a teacher, child advocate, and school bus driver. What started this journey was my one and only girl passed away, and it took a significant toll on me. I turned to food to grieve and gained so much weight. I was also on two blood pressure pills and on my way to being diabetic. One day, I looked at my husband and said, “This is enough; I’m taking care of this problem now.” I needed to physically and mentally take care of my health. The only thing I am mad about is that I did not start my weight loss journey sooner!
Why MBC?
I found MBC through friends that were looking healthy and losing weight. I asked them what they did to lose weight, and they told me they went and got surgery at MBC. From then on, I researched the types of surgeries, hospitals, and doctors MBC provided. I booked my appointment and flight. They took care of me from there! I was determined to lose weight as the easiest way to ensure I would be in my children’s life as long as possible!

My Experience in Mexico
My surgeon was the best, and her name was Louisiana Vanezuela. She was so kind and honest with me. I trusted her because she also got weight loss surgery in the past. She did the surgery so well that I did not even have the drain tubes, which was my biggest fear. They had a driver waiting for me when I arrived off the plane. He took us to the hotel, where a “Happy Meal” was ready for us while checking us in. The hotel was spotless and accommodating to patients. They had popsicles and broth whenever you wanted it. They had a driver outside that took you shopping or to look around the city. The next day they let you know when they were picking you up to get testing done before surgery.
On the day of surgery, you arrive at the hospital, and Karla is there to greet you. She made you feel comfortable and at peace. She made sure you had whatever you needed. She is hilarious and has a good vibe. The hospital is immaculate, and they have caring nurses. I enjoyed and miss being there. The nurses were there to take care of me if I needed anything. It was a great experience. So many people asked, “You went to Mexico to get surgery?” It was a cleaner, safer, and better experience than people in the U.S. I got the gastric sleeve, and it healed fast with no complications AT ALL. I had no side effects after surgery and would do it again!
My Life After Surgery
It has been two years since my surgery. I get around so much better and have a lot of energy. I can fit into clothes and look good in them. I am off all my medicines and nowhere near being diabetic. Doing things I couldn’t do before feels good because of my weight. It’s nice to get on a plane and buckle with no problem or get on roller coaster rides. It’s been GREAT!
