Bariatric Meetup in Anacortes, Washington

Jamie Mosely, one of our wonderful patient coordinators, recently organized a special gathering for our past patients. During this bariatric meetup, they took pictures, shared personal success stories, non-scale victories (NSVs) and found a local community of support. As some patients approached their one-year post-op anniversary, we also took a moment to reflect on their journey. At MBC, our coordinators truly understand the bariatric journey because they’ve been there themselves. This firsthand experience deeply connects them to each patient’s progress, making every milestone and non-scale victory a cause for genuine celebration.

How Our Patients Are Doing Now

Reflecting on your progress is crucial—it helps you appreciate where you started, recognize how far you’ve come, and understand the impact bariatric surgery has had on your life. Our Washington community is home to amazing people and inspiring stories. Here are a few testimonials from our local patients:

“I have fought with my weight since I was young, trying every diet out there. I would lose some and then gain it back. I was on Fen-Phen and did great but once I stopped, it all came back. I had been looking into having bariatric surgery for a very long time. But, the cost of having it in the U.S. and some of the crazy ideas I had in my head about it made it something I couldn’t do. After seeing Jamie and my friend do so well, it was time for me to go too. Jamie sent me the information on Mexico Bariatric Center, so I went onto their page and was shocked by how easy it could be to get the surgery and how much positive information they had. The MBC Facebook page was a lifesaver for me. I learned so much from other patients that truly helped me through the beginning stages. I signed up and had my surgery in June 2023. It was truly the best thing I have ever done for myself. I have to remind myself to eat slowly – that one was hard – but otherwise no issues at all. Since last June I have lost 93 pounds as of this morning and I hope to keep going. The best part of all of this is that I have been able to play more with my 3 grandsons. They are 9, 6 & 2 years old and it has been the best thing ever to run with them and play at the park. I can even get on the swings and go down the slide with the little one. I feel like I have a fresh start in my life. Thank you, MBC!”

“First off, thank you MBC for my surgery and second, thank you to my wife Kristy for the support on this journey and third, I thank myself for taking this seriously! I just ran my second 5K marathon in less than a month. I was faster by a few seconds and set a new PR for myself! I found out I finished third in my age group which got me a medal, needless to say, I am very shocked by all this but am very happy with myself. If you believe in the process of this group and the surgery you can do anything you put your mind to. I feel so good about myself and how well I am doing with my weight loss and my exercise. I am 94 pounds down and almost 23 weeks post-op. Trust the surgery, trust the process, trust yourself to do the right thing. If you haven’t talked to your spouse and the problems that could arise from this do know short tempers, jealousy, anger, and resentment can happen so please talk with your spouse and prepare. I love the choice I made and wouldn’t change a thing except the knowledge that I am sharing with you now. I am currently at 213 lbs and can feel onederland is just a couple of months away and this is by far the best decision I have made in my life. If you are on the fence or scared don’t be it is so worth it. I only wish I would have done it sooner. Thank you for your time to read this and thank you for your support.”

“I had surgery at 305 lbs at 42 years old. I am a new mom, so I wasn’t able to keep up with my daughter or chase her around. In the beginning, I was terrified to go to Tijuana to have surgery. My friend Jamie Moseley had been and a few other friends. They have had great success and a great experience with MBC. So, I decided to go with my friend Nicole. The hospital staff was very friendly and helpful! I now have so much more energy and I can do a small jog with my 4-year-old daughter. We are very active now as a family and I feel great! I have lost 65 lbs in 8 months. Thank you, MBC for your time and help in my weight loss journey.”

“Mexico Bariatric Center gave me my life back!
I had been looking into revision surgery for years. I previously had the Lap band in the U.S. (2005) and it was successful until I discovered a hiatal hernia. Everything slowly went backward and I started gaining the weight back. I became heavier than I had been originally. I looked many times into trying to fix the hernia, re-doing my band, or getting a revision procedure. Unfortunately, my insurance wouldn’t cover it in the States. In the last few years, I have had a few friends and family go to Mexico for bariatric surgery. The majority of them have gone to MBC with great success which made me re-look into revision procedures. First locally, then researching the clinics I had references to in Mexico. I finally decided on MBC and was accepted. I needed the hernia repair and lap band removal to the gastric sleeve. I was excited and apprehensive but I knew it was the best choice for me! I found out my friend Shanna was going and we scheduled to go together. We shared rooms at the hotel and hospital. It was great to go with a friend and have that extra support. With my background working for surgeons I went in skeptical but the staff was great! They were professional, attentive, and highly accommodating. What a relief! Karla is the GREATEST!!! The hospital stay was easy.

Since surgery, MBC continues with their support. Any questions for the smallest things are met quickly with answers and no judgment. I feel very lucky that we have a great Washington support group that supports each other and Jamie; who is now also a great asset to the community. I have so far lost 74 lbs since the beginning of my pre-op journey. I have had many NSVs that I feel are more rewarding than the scale. Some of my favorites are going to a restaurant and fitting in a booth, not losing breath walking across the room, or not having to move the car steering wheel so I can get in. One of my favorite things to do was go to the beach and walk. I hadn’t done it in a few years. I walked with friends while carrying a puppy and I DID IT!!! I was so excited I shared it with my family. My brother sent me a message telling me how awesome it was because I couldn’t walk 10 feet without having to sit down and catch my breath. How amazing is that! Finally, I started doing some before and after pictures. That’s when I started to see how far I had come. I have a long way to go; I’d like at least another 100 lbs but I know I’m going to get there. I am so thankful to MBC and their support before, during, and especially after the process. You are not forgotten once you leave. That is HUGE!!!”

“I had a gastric sleeve in January 2024 with Dr. Miguel Montalvo. I chose MBC because there is and was no judgment on the decision to have surgery. I struggled with fad diets and the yo-yo effect of losing and gaining weight. Living life with Fibromyalgia, I hated working out as it exacerbated the pain. Since surgery, I am down 55 lbs and I have now started a light cardio workout to get my body back into it. I went from pant size 16 to 10/12 and shirts/dresses size XXL to M/L. I have learned how to eat, and I can still enjoy going out to eat. I have completely stopped eating candy and drinking carbonated beverages. All in all, I wouldn’t change my decision for anything.”
